I've read the age of majority is 18 but persons over 16 can enter into legal contracts.

Any lawyer can confirm this?

I would say that there is an 'age limit' because you have to be old enough to sign legal documents. As to the exact age, I am not too sure. Perhaps a lawyer could answer that. Any lawyer reading this, please advise. I am curious too.

In you are doing a course in Contract law, then, this question will be found in the Contracts Act 1950.
If you are doing a course in land law, then, this question will also be found in the Contracts Act 1950.

In all practicality, to spare you the details and the case laws on this area, common sense should prevail by looking at prudence and good sound reason why a teenager would prefer to rent instead of staying with the parents, unless this is a hostel set up by the school or educational institution where there are adults to supervise and control when situation demands so.

I think, social responsiblity issue, parental guidance, good morality and civic consciousness should take center stage at such a tender age, not freedom from all the above. Age is therefore not the factor for renting.
